A non-exclusive list of improvements and upgrades that could improve the energy rating of a property and reduce the overall running costs:
- Loft insulation
- Cavity wall insulation (CWI)
- An energy-efficient condensing boiler
- Internal or external wall insulation (solid brick or where CWI is not recommended)
- Solar panels (electricity)
- Solar thermal panels (hot water)
- Biomass boiler or stove
- Ground source or air source heat pump
- Floor insulation
- Double glazing upgrade
- Upgrade to unvented hot water cylinder
- Draught-proofing
- Flat roof and/or sloping ceiling insulation
- Installing a programmer, thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) if not already in situ
- Low energy light bulbs
- A wind turbine (!)
